Rome Collection Showcase! From Milan - Lagos Fashion Week 2015.
Kinabuti fashion brand exhibited its 'ROME' collection at the IFE Charity event held in Milan last week. The entire vibrant 21-piece collection was showcased on the runway.
The IFE CHARITY NIGHT was organized by Esclamativo Donna, a non-profitable organization established in 2012 to promote female talent in sectors of excellence for Italian culture. It was held in collaboration with the network of entrepreneurs, Territory Pavese and the City of Milan.
Kinabuti’s ROME COLLECTION embodies the brand vision of building a sustainable fashion sector in Nigeria. The whole process from creating the tie‐dye and batik prints, to bringing the designs from sketch to wearable pieces, was carried out by the women trained through skill empowerment programs, making it a purely ethical collection.
The entire collection is unique as each piece was hand made by women from Iba, Orile in a 3 month long training and empowerment program they were taught the art of tie-dye, traditional hand painting on cloths, tailoring and pattern cutting.
The 'ROME' collection will also be showcased at the upcoming Lagos Fashion and Design Week 2015.
It's finally here! Check out the newest line from Nigerian ethical fashion label, Kinabuti. Each of these pieces was handmade in Nigeria through community education and empowerment programs and designed by Kinabuti founder, Caterina Bertolussi. This week, ethical fashion label, Kinabuti will roll out their Spring 2016 line, The Rome Collection in Lagos, Nigeria.
Kinabuti is an Ethical Fashion Label that uses fashion as a vehicle to promote and implement sustainability projects and foster capacity building, (the process of developing and strengthening the skills, instincts, abilities, processes and resources that organizations and communities need to survive, adapt, and thrive in the fast changing world), and employment in disadvantaged communities.
For this collection Kinabuti worked with fifteen women from under privileged communities in Lagos, Nigeria. During a 3 month training, the incredible, Floriana Betto Bindi from New York's Parson School of Design trained these fifteen women pattern-making and dressmaking techniques. The best students qualified for their first contracting job for the Kinabuti label, earning an income and starting a career in fashion.
Each of the fine fabrics in The Rome Collection were created in youth workshops. The workshops taught youths the art of tie-dye on fabrics, using antique techniques of African batik revisited with a modern approach.
Kinabuti's youth workshop act as a vehicle to instigate economical development in Nigeria. The students in these workshops become qualified for their first contracting job for the Kinabuti label, earn an income and learn a useful artisanal profession.
Stay tuned to see The Rome Collection.
